Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most often about HammyTurf. If yours is not here, send it through the contact form.
Getting started
Do I need to sign up or download anything?
No. Open hammyturf.io in your browser, enter a nickname and press Play. There is no account, no email and no app to install.
Is it free?
Yes. There are no purchases. The game is supported by advertising.
What devices can I play on?
Any modern browser on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android. Phones use touch and computers use the mouse. See How to Play (Controls).
Do I have to enter a nickname?
You can leave it blank. A nickname you enter is filled in automatically next time, and it is shown publicly if you reach the leaderboards. Do not use your real name or anything else you want kept private.
What is the LINE mini app version?
A Japanese-language version of HammyTurf that runs inside the LINE messaging app. Your records are tied to your LINE account, so switching phones needs no transfer step. It also offers the trail shield in exchange for watching a video ad. Web and LINE players share the same stages.
Gameplay
I got taken down. How do I continue?
Press "Play Again" on the result screen to rejoin as a fresh hamster. Your lifetime score, rank, kills and seeds collected carry over.
I passed an opponent but didn't take them down.
Step-on checks use the center of the body, not the nose. To be sure of a hit, make your body center cross the trail. See Rules (Trails and Enclosures).
An opponent under a translucent dome survived my hit.
That player has a trail shield. The first hit breaks it; the second takes them down.
When does a round end?
When total turf reaches about 60% of the stage, a 30-second countdown starts, and the round ends at zero. The bar on the left reaching the red zone is the signal. See Rounds and Ranks.
My lifetime score isn't going up.
Lifetime score is added only when you survive to the end of a round. Rounds where you were eliminated add nothing, however much turf you had. The Beginner Strategy Guide is all about surviving.
Can I choose my team?
No. In Team Battle you are placed automatically on the team with the fewest players when you join.
Records and leaderboards
Where are my records stored?
On the server, tied to a transfer code issued the first time you play. Your browser stores only that code. Clearing browser data loses the code, and with it access to your records.
Can I move my records to a new phone or browser?
Yes. In Saving and Transferring Your Data on the home page, press "Email my transfer URL" and send the email to yourself. Open that URL on the new device and the transfer is done. Do this before you switch.
When do the leaderboards close?
The daily, weekly and monthly boards all close at 00:00 UTC. Switch between "current" and "previous" to see finished results. Boards exist for every combination of Solo/Team and score/kills/seeds, each listing the top 100.
Can my rank go down?
No. Lifetime score never decreases, so rank never does either.
